Here it is July 19th and only NOW we have our first tomato! It was a rather pathetically tiny tomato hidden inside the 5′ tall, seemingly overgrown bush. The kind you look at and say “Really? That’s all you got?”. However, looking at the hundreds of green tomatoes just waiting for that perfect time to ripen, I know it will be an incredible, prolific tomato year.
We started these in the living room at the end of February. Yes, a bit early but you know how it is… it’s cold outside, it’s still getting dark at 5 o’clock and as you’re sitting in that oversized, fluffy chair in front of the fireplace, you’re craving fresh tomatoes from your garden that you grew from seed. So being that person of action, you start the seeds knowing full well that in a mere 4-1/2 months you’ll have fresh tomatoes. Well, this is that day.
